Data confidence

Streamwatch combines science with community engagement and education. Accurate, reliable and useful water quality data is important to the Australian Museum, Sydney Water, Sydney Catchment Authority, Streamwatch groups, partners and our stakeholders. Maintaining this level of quality assurance is a core aspect of Streamwatch.

Streamwatch data is used as an early warning system for pollution events and a historical record of how waterways have changed. It can complement more expensive laboratory certified water monitoring field data. It can also help evaluate the effects of remediation projects and identify local issues so that action can be taken.

Like any scientific procedure there are limitations. You should exercise skill and care while using this website and carefully evaluate the accuracy, currency, completeness and relevance of Streamwatch data for your purposes.

Streamwatch water quality data is collected by groups and is not intended as a substitute for independent professional advice or information.
